  • TS4872 Dana 44 Adjustable Depth Inner Axle Seal Tool Set Quickly and easily installs original equipmentQU40055 Inner Axle Seal in vintage Chevy, Dodge, Ford, GMC, IHC, and Jeep 4x4s with Dana 44 front axles. Our unique installer design will press in your new original equipment Inner Axle Seals without damage because the CNC Precision Machined Installation Tool cups the seal so force is only applied on the steel seal shell. Our Installer is made to custom fit original equipment seals. It may or may not fit any other make of seal.

QT1165Installer tool, included with this Tool Set, does not have a depth stop so you can offset the seal to clear a worn spot in the axle shaft, however, for a reference point, you will need to check the depth of the old seals before removing them. Kit IncludesQT1161 Thrust Plate,QT1165 Installer, andQT1189 Press Screw. USA Made.

    Applications

Tech Note 1: Must be Removed
Your brakes, wheel hubs, axle shafts, and differential must be removed from the housing to replace yourQU40055 inner axle shaft seals.

    Tech Note 5: See Applications
The inner axle seals used on Chevy, Dodge, Ford, GMC, IHC, and Jeep closed and open knuckle Dana Model 44 Front Axles will vary by year and model. See Article.

    Tech Note 3: Adjustable Depth
TS4872 usesQT1165 application specific adjustable depth installer which allows you to offset the seal to miss a worn spot on the axle shaft. This is a valuable feature, however, YOU have to determine the final depth of the seal. It is possible to seat the seal too deep withQT1165 installer which can put the seal beyond the machined seal surface of the axle shaft. We also offer TS4871 Seal Installer Set which usesQT1041 specific Depth Stop Seal Installer which has a raised flange on it that will stop against the axle bore face when the seal is at the correct depth. This is a more fool-proof setup than TS4872, but it is a little more expensive and you can not vary the seal depth to miss a groove worn in the axle shaft.

Tech Note 4: Use Correct Seals
Due to the way we have to make the tool to function, your Seal Installer and Seal MUST match.QT1165 Installer will only work with original equipment design, CR manufactured seals such as our QU40055. Seals manufactured by other seal manufacturers WILL NOT WORK WITH THIS INSTALLER!!!

Tech Note 5: Removal of Old Seals
Once the axle is disassembled, the old seals can be easily removed with ourQK4647 Seal Remover Tool Set or other suitable tool such as a length of sturdy pipe that will fit inside the axle tube. You will also need to clean the inside of the axle tube to remove dirt and crud that could get pushed into your new seal during reassembly.
